What we like

  • Recording link ready after a session; viewers need no account
  • Editor with a multi-track timeline, transcript editing and captions
  • Screen recording on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, with no recording-hour limit on paid plans

What to watch

  • Screen shares max out at 1080p
  • Computer audio from the whole screen only on Windows
  • No free studio plan on the pricing page, and no Linux or Chromebook support

Best for: You record podcasts or interviews with guests and sometimes need to show your screen.

Our verdict

Riverside is a studio for recording conversations. Each person is recorded as a separate track, screen shares become their own track, and the editor lets you cut by transcript, add captions and arrange tracks on a timeline. After a session you can share a link that anyone can watch without an account.

As a screen recorder it is a side feature. Screen shares record at up to 1080p, and on a Mac computer sound comes only from a browser tab. The free online recorder needs no sign-up but stops at 30 minutes. The studio starts with Pro at $288 a year.

If you mostly record your screen alone, Descript gives you 4K on Mac and a share link the moment you stop. For free recording and editing without a watermark, try Clipchamp.
