Our verdict

Scribe watches your clicks and writes the guide for you: one step per click, with a screenshot and a line of text. You can share it as a link or embed it in a wiki. The free Basic plan does this in Chrome and Edge and shows view counts.

Most of what a documentation team needs is on Pro. Desktop capture, unlimited guides, your own branding, screenshot editing and PDF, HTML or Markdown export all start at Pro Personal, $300 per seat a year. Teams of five or more pay less per seat on Pro Team.

Scribe doesn’t record screen video. If you want video guides with a voiceover, look at Guidde. Tango is the closest alternative for written guides and costs a little less for one or two people.

Is Scribe free?
Yes. The Basic plan is free and captures guides in Chrome and Edge, with a share link and embed. Unlimited guides, the desktop app and exports need Pro Personal at $25 per seat a month billed yearly, or $35 monthly.
Does Scribe work outside the browser?
Yes, on Pro and Enterprise. The desktop apps for Windows and Mac capture any application. The free plan captures only in the browser.
Can Scribe record a screen video?
No. Scribe captures clicks as screenshots and text. You can play a finished guide as a video-style Movie, but it doesn’t record your screen as video.
